Homestead

A family homestead is the antithesis to the Culture of Death. All life is celebrated and appreciated as a gift from God. New births generate great excitement. Additional children are welcomed and counted as blessings.

A homestead provides a myriad of opportunities to grow as a family as well as to grow close to God. Working together creates bonds like nothing else can, especially when that work is vitally important to the well-being of the family. Building a home, for example, is a family bonding experience that can only be appreciated by doing. Building animal shelters, putting up fences, planting gardens, directing water supplies, harnessing nature's power and sharing in her bounty are a few of the many homesteading tasks that connect us with God and with each other.

A homesteading lifestyle is one in which we consider the needs of each other and consider the needs of nature entrusted to our care. We have to be diligent and persevering. We have to be considerate and quiet. We can't be wasteful, or polluting. We have to take time to listen, to smell, to observe. We have to help each other. We have to work together. We need to rely on God. We need to pray often.

A homesteading lifestyle can be lived in any environment. The key is to be acutely aware of the needs of all creatures around us, and to be willing to be Christ's hands in attending to those needs.
